[Finished] Operation Deadly Love

  • Everything felt heavy and as if it weighed a ton and my body felt constricted. I struggled to open my eyes but finally managed to do so. The light felt too bright and it hurt my eyes along with my head that seemed to throb in pain. I was sitting down on an uncomfortable chair and my hands were tied behind my back. Great – just freaking awesome.
  • I closed my eyes once more and took a deep breath, trying to collect myself. Misun and I had followed Taemin to that fire. The fire had been pretty bad and I knew Misun was worried about Taemin. Even if I wasn’t exactly fond of the guy, I was worried too. He was a good guy.
  • I remembered looking around for anything or anyone suspicious. There was a young man in the crowd who was looking on. His face was rather stoic but then he saw me looking. He turned around and left hurriedly out of the crowd so I followed him.
  • I sighed I as opened my eyes. I had been an *, following on my own. I should have informed Misun. If I was going to survive this, she was going to have my head for it.
  • I frowned as I tried to tug at the ropes that were tying my hands but the knot was done well…maybe too well. It almost felt as if it was something professional. I looked around and for the first time took in the place I was being held in.
  • It was a large living room, decorated with white and black furniture. There was a fireplace with real, actual wood crackling away with the heat. On it, there seemed to be a gold statue. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was real gold.
  • The sofa was made with black leather with white satin cushions on it. There was a white rug which looked like it was made of real fur. It definitely seemed expensive. In the centre of the room, there was a white grand piano and above it a golden chandelier. Against the wall, there was a huge painting showing two adults and a teenage son, all in expensive clothing.
  • ‘Yep, definitely a wealthy family,’ I said to myself just as the door opened. A lot of commotion was heard just two guys pushed forward another two – a father and son duo.
  • ‘Don’t make a sound,’ one of the younger two ordered as the other two whimpered clearly afraid. The one that had yelled at them was holding a gun in their direction while the other one brought two chairs from the kitchen and placed them next to me. He also had a gun strapped to his side.
  • ‘Sit down, now,’ he ordered as the two sat down. There was something authoritative in his voice. They seemed to completely forget about me, or at least, momentarily, they seemed to have. The one who brought the chairs moved quickly as he tied them up using ropes.
  • ‘What the hell are you doing?’ I finally asked, tired of being ignored and wanting some answers.
  • ‘Ahh sleeping beauty is finally awake,’ the one who was giving the orders said. The two stopped as they removed the masks. They were both young, probably in their twenties. They had clean shaven heads and faces. They looked sort of similar to one another, possibly marking them as brothers. The father and son duo both gasped, clearly recognizing them.
  • ‘You seem to have recognized us. Good, but let me introduce ourselves for your sake,’ the other one said. ‘I’m Mark, this is Lucas. We’re brothers,’ Mark said.
  • ‘And you’re Detective Jeon, right? The one investigating the arson cases,’ Lucas said.
  • ‘I am and since you know who I am, I am going to assume you know the repercussions of kidnapping and hurting me,’ I said.
  • ‘We do but what can I say? Mate, wrong timing and wrong place. You should have left us to do our mission without getting involved,’ Mark said as he clicked his tongue.
  • ‘Mission? What mission? Burning houses and killing people?’ I asked but they both scoffed.
  • ‘Why don’t they tell you why we’re all here hmm? Why all this started in the first place hmm? Maybe that way you’ll have a better understanding as to why we’re doing all of this,’ Lucas asked as Mark walked towards the son.
  • Mark crouched lowly and grabbed him by the face, digging his fingers into the young male’s cheeks. There was a certain precision to the way they both moved; not just precision though but also authority and predatory. The young male looked terrified but there was something more…something I could not quite identify. Was that…guilt? Was it regret? For what?
  • ‘Leave him alone! He did the time for what he did!’ his father yelled as he tried to struggle against the chair.
  • ‘Oh is that so? Did you hear him little brother? He said he already paid for what he did,’ Mark taunted as he approached the father and slapped him, using the back of his hand.
  • The slap echoed loudly in the room and the son sobbed once more. The father’s head lolled to the side as blood came out of his now busted lip. The son cried and shook in his chair while Lucas approached him. He was terrified.
  • ‘Tell our cop friend what you did,’ Mark said but the boy remained quiet except for his sobs. ‘TELL HIM!!’ Mark roared as he pointed his gun to his forehead.
  • ‘I… I killed a girl,’ he said as he sobbed some more. I blinked as I stared at him in disbelief. ‘I...I didn’t mean to. I…I was driving and I was drunk…I hit her with my car,’ he said.
  • I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I shook my head. My instinct was right – it was revenge. The pieces were coming together in this whole orchestrated plot.
  • ‘He killed our little sister. Our precious angel who was always so kind. Do you know what the doctors said?’ Lucas asked as his own tears rolled down his cheeks while his hands shook.
  • ‘They said that if she had been brought before, she could have been saved but this *, son of a *, left her. He hit her and then ran away like a coward,’ Mark said.
  • ‘I…I was scared. I’m sorry,’ the boy cried out but the brothers just shook their heads.
  • ‘You think our sister wasn’t scared huh? She was left alone, in the middle of the road, in pain and dying,’ Lucas said as she punched him hard in the face.
  • The boy cried out in pain as blood gushed out from his nose. Lucas had probably broken his nose while the father continued to struggle against the chair.
  • ‘Imagine the surprise we got that day. We had returned home from our enlistment, ready to surprise our family and especially our baby sister,’ Mark said.
  • ‘But we were the ones who got the surprise when they called us and told us what happened. Our family was a mess and then…then you had to make things worse,’ Lucas said, spitting out his words.
  • ‘Listen I know you’re upset and you have every right to be so. I get it and I understand it but this isn’t the way to go. There’s why there is the law,’ I said.
  • ‘The law?’ Mark asked, laughing as he shook his head while Lucas approached, swinging his gun around.
  • ‘The law spit and laughed in our face. These *s, they hired a lawyer and paid him off well to defend him. They got his bestie to give a false testimony, saying our sister is the one who crossed wrong,’ Lucas said.
  • ‘And then, then they paid of the judge and gave this * only four months in jail. That’s how much our sister’s life is worth for them,’ Mark said.
  • ‘I know it sucks. It sucks big time and I don’t blame you for wanting justice for your sister but this…this isn’t justice, this is revenge and sometimes, sometimes it’s a very fine line between the two,’ I said, trying to convince them to stop this.
  • ‘Revenge, justice, it doesn’t make a difference. They deserve to pay for what they have done. I’m just sorry you got dragged into this mess,’ Mark said.
  • Lucas left the room but returned quickly with a can of what I knew was gasoline. I closed my eyes, knowing what was coming next. The father and son both screamed and sobbed loudly as Lucas began to drench everywhere.
  • Mark approached me and kneeled down in front of me. ‘I really am sorry that you got caught up in this, but you were trying to stop us,’ he said.
  • ‘Because this isn’t right Mark,’ I said, shaking my head. ‘Do you think your sister would be proud of you for doing this in her name?’ I asked. Mark gave me a sad smile as he shook his head.
  • ‘No, not at all but she’ll get peace, knowing the person who killed her got what he deserved,’ Mark said.
  • ‘I don’t think so. I know revenge, I know the thirst for it. When thugs killed my partner in front of me, when they shot her dead and left her to die, I wanted nothing more than revenge. I wanted to kill them but I knew I had to be the better man, so I went about it the right way,’ I said.
  • ‘Well that’s the difference, you were the better man, we’re just the better monsters,’ Mark said.
  • ‘Please no!!’ the father screamed as Mark and Lucas both went towards the door. I took a deep breath, knowing there was no convincing them.
  • ‘Any last words?’ Lucas said as he looked at the other two who just cried and trembled. I looked to the cross on the wall and gave a small smile.
  • Dear Lord, help me for I am terrified. Let my death be easy. Keep my family and my members safe and help Misun go through this.
  • I turned my attention back to the two brothers who both lit a match and threw it at the carpet. Flames instantly started to show as the two walked out. I felt my heart stop for a moment as I saw the place slowly but surely catch on fire.
